Held to commemorate the life and work of Alice Paul, who successfully campaigned for women's suffrage in 1917-1918 and played a major role in the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment (19th Amendment or Amendment XIX) to the United States Constitution which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.
