Holograph, signed.
Evelina A. S. Smith received a packet of letters and papers from Caroline Weston. Evelina A. S. Smith writes: "It struck me Miss Weston the other day after talking with Mr. May upon Fairs, & hearing him express some fear of them, that it might be well to have a shop in Boston, filled with articles contributed by Abolitionists." She discusses this idea at length. She praises the Liberty Bell. She mentions the dissension in the ranks of the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society. She gives her views regarding an argument between Nathaniel Colver and Henry C. Wright. Evelina A. S. Smith "sympathised entirely with Mr. Wright and was so much pleased with his manner & his matter, that it pained me to see anything that looked like inperfection in him. I could not bear to see him unjust in the slightest degree to his opponent. I have the same feeling towards your party that I had towards Mr. Wright, ..." She hopes the Garrisonians will do nothing wrong. She regrets the attitude of the Liberator toward the New Organization. The New Organization should be ruined by its own wrongdoing, without help from the Garrisonians.
This date is inferred.
