S. Alfred Steinthal (1826-1910) writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to Mr. May's letter on the Manchester Conference. He says they passed strong resolutions cooperating with the American Anti-Slavery Society and "yet the first thing after the meeting the one Secretary Mr. Parkes as much as gives up that body at a meeting of the congregational Board, & Dr. Beard the President is doubtful as to whether they had not better act independantly of all Societies without mentioning Garrison at all." He mentions another conference coming up in London and believes the conference "will have fire yet." He discusses other abolitionists and differences between English societies and American societies. He doesn't believe he will attend the London conference. George Thompson hasn't replied to his letters. He writes of receiving Southern papers from the Liberator and other correspondence.
