The meeting of 25 antiwar organizations was organized by the Student Mobilization Committee to form a United Defense Committee to protect peace groups from violent disruption by extremists, following an attack on SMC members by members of the PLP and SDS. The meeting was held at the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union hall in South Boston.
