Elizur Wright Jr. writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding the executive committee's decision to have Phelps' close his operations in Massachusetts and make New York his field of labor for the next three months. He writes, "the committee did not fail to perceive the force of your reasons for laboring in Massachusetts, but the consideration which I proceed to state seemed to outweigh their." He writes of their reasons for making this decision, stating that Phelps' "success in New England will tell far less upon our anniversary than if it were in this state. We want you, & Thompson if possible, to wake up all the principal towns north & west."
