Citizenship test portion of 1949 Voter's Registration Act (Act 297, H.B. 2).
Applicants for voter registration were required to read and write a section of the Georgia Constitution as a literacy test. If they could not read or write, they could take an oral examination to demonstrate that they understood "the duties of citizenship under a republican form of government..." Applicants had to correctly answer 10 out of 30 questions.
