Mary Rotch writes to Maria Weston Chapman replying to an appeal for money. She sends only $5 because she doesn't approve of some of the anti-slavery lectures. She writes, "I understand that much of the product of these anti-slavery fairs goes to the payment of public lecturers, and certainly, some of their discourses are of a character which do not seem to me likely to effect any good."
